SUSANVILLE, Calif. (AP) — A Northern California woman is facing 25-years to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing her police officer husband.
The Sacramento Bee (http://bit.ly/1eZtFxi ) says Joanna Lynne McElrath of Susanville entered her plea in Lassen County Superior Court on Friday to the murder of her husband, Susanville police Officer Robert McElrath in 2011.
The 37-year-old McElrath was initially charged with premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder, with special allegations that the murder involved lying in wait in the New Year's Day killing.
She's scheduled for sentencing on May 23.
Another suspect, 49-year-old Robin Glen James, faces similar charges. He's due back in court in May.
Authorities say McElrath and James drugged Robert McElrath with a prescription narcotic before shooting him with his service weapon and returned later to dump his body off a bridge.
