TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Tucson's police chief says it's concerning that an officer shoved a woman in a melee after the University of Arizona basketball team lost in the NCAA tournament but that it's too soon to judge why it happened.
Chief Roberto Villasenor says the unidentified woman has filed a complaint that's now being investigated by the department's internal affairs unit.
The incident occurred Saturday night as fans took to the streets near campus after the game and hurled beer bottles and firecrackers at officers, who then used pepper spray to disperse the crowd. Police said 15 people were arrested.
A bystander's cellphone video appeared to show an officer shoving the woman into a bench, but Villasenor says police will examine other video and conduct interviews to learn more about what happened.
