CONCORD, Calif. (AP) — Crews are working to repair tracks damaged by a Bay Area Rapid Transit train derailment with the goal of restoring service to three stations by Sunday morning.
Trains stopped running between Pleasant Hill and Pittsburg Bay Point in Contra Costa county after a train derailed on an elevated stretch of track near the Concord station Friday evening.
The accident happened after the train completed its scheduled run. Only the train operator was aboard and no injuries were reported.
A BART spokesman says crews will work through the night to fix the damaged tracks and an electrified third rail. An investigation into what caused the derailment continues.
The line that runs through Concord is the busiest in the BART system.
