CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (AP) — Police plan to burn a mobile home in the Southern California desert filled with explosive chemicals and materials for homemade bombs.
Cathedral City police tell the Riverside Press-Enterprise (http://bit.ly/1nJdtVL ) it's the safest way to deal with the dangerous items. They're hoping to get approval from Riverside County officials by Friday.
Police went to the Sungate County Mobile Home Park Tuesday after a woman said her brother was acting delusional and might be there.
Police say they arrested the man — who appeared to be high on drugs — and found a bomb, other materials and quantities of potassium nitrate and aluminum powder.
Capt. Chuck Robinson says the chemicals can be volatile when mixed and any electric spark or even static electricity could set them off.
Eight nearby homes remain evacuated.
