RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. (AP) — Divers searching for a 19-year-old man who's believed to have drowned at a rocky ocean cove near Los Angeles have failed to find his body for a second day.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says Thursday's eight-hour search turned up nothing at Abalone Cove in Rancho Palos Verdes.
They'll resume the hunt for Joseph Sanchez on Friday.
Friends of the missing Long Beach man told authorities they were jumping into the churning water to explore a cave when he started yelling for help Wednesday afternoon.
The water was too rough for them to reach him.
The area has dangerous waves and riptides but online videos of people jumping off rocks there have increased its popularity.
Authorities say lifeguards have made more than 50 rescues in the area since July 1.
