SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Organizers of the biggest comic-book convention in the nation are suing their counterparts in Salt Lake City over the event's name.
San Diego Comic-Con, in a lawsuit filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Southern California, says Salt Lake Comic Con's use of "comic con" in the name constitutes federal trademark infringement and confuses the public into thinking the two conventions are affiliated.
Salt Lake City organizers say dozens of conventions across the country brand their events as comic cons and they're prepared to defend themselves against the suit.
They earlier refused to back down after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from the San Diego organizers.
Organizers say the events feature the best in movies, television shows, gaming, sci-fi/fantasy and comic books. Many attendees dress up as their favorite characters.
