Olympic luger Kate Hansen is taking next season off to focus on academics.
Last season, Hansen became the first American to win a singles race on the World Cup luge circuit in more than 16 years. USA Luge made the announcement Tuesday, unveiling its national team for the fall.
Olympic bronze medalist Erin Hamlin returns to the team, joined by Summer Britcher, Julia Clukey and Emily Sweeney. In men's singles, two-time World Cup medalist Chris Mazdzer returns, with Tucker West, Aidan Kelly and Taylor Morris.
In doubles, Jake Hyrns and Andrew Sherk are paired, along with the new duo of Matt Mortensen and Jayson Terdiman. Anthony Espinoza is also on the team, with an undetermined teammate.
Three-time Olympian Christian Niccum retired, and doubles Olympian Preston Griffall is skipping this season.
