JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi Episcopalians have elected a rector from Ridgeland to become the next bishop of Mississippi.
The Very Rev. Brian R. Seage ("sage") of St. Columb's (KAHL-umz) Episcopal Church was chosen yesterday over four other nominees, one from Hattiesburg and the others from North Carolina, Missouri and Denver.
If confirmed, he will succeed the Rt. Rev. Duncan M. Gray III in February, when Gray retires.
The Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi says Saturday's election took five ballots. It was held at St. Andrew's Cathedral in Jackson.
Seage has been rector of St. Columb's in Ridgeland since 2005. He has been a priest since 1998.
Before that, he was director of youth ministry for St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in his native Thousand Oaks, Calif.
