NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Less than a week after opening day, the Little League season has been indefinitely suspended in Newport Beach.
The Orange County Register reports (http://bit.ly/1nvk8s7 ) that 700 boys and girls have been left to wonder when they may next play baseball.
The Newport Beach Little League includes about 70 teams for children ages 5 to 13.
Organizers say they are un sure why regional coordinators put their season in limbo Wednesday.
League president Gary Borquez believes the suspension may have come because more than half of the 24 members of the board were coaches and managers.
Several managers resigned last week when they learned of the suspension, and Borquez said he has tried without luck to contact regional organizers.
