SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A Canadian man who's suspected of conning an 86-year-old widow and others out of more than $100,000 is being extradited to Southern California.
Seal Beach police said Thursday that Daniel Marcotte will be booked at the Orange County Men's Jail on suspicion of fraud.
It's not clear when he's expected to arrive or whether he has a U.S. attorney.
Police allege that the 30-year-old Montreal man called the widow twice last year, claiming to be her grandson. He allegedly asked her to send money to a New York address to get him out of a Mexican jail.
The widow became suspicious and contacted authorities.
Officials say Marcotte was captured on surveillance video picking up the money.
He was arrested last September in Canada.
