Body of 21-year-old found in Los Angeles River

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 21-year-old man has been found dead in the Los Angeles River.

Coroner and fire officials say the body of Pearson Kim Taing of Los Angeles was found north of downtown Monday.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Shawn Lenske says firefighters were called at 7:26 a.m. to assist police and sheriff's investigators in recovering the body.

The river level is currently shallow in the concrete-lined channel near the Spring Street Bridge between Chinatown and Lincoln Heights.

Circumstances of the death are not immediately known.

Homeless people often camp in the riverbed and during last week's heavy rains firefighters rescued several people as the river suddenly surged to life with fast-flowing water.
