6 rescued from damaged canoe off Bay Area marina

SAN MATEO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say six people have been rescued from a canoe that was damaged during a boating trip off a San Francisco Bay area marina.

A ranger at Coyote Point Harbor says the paddlers, all members of a canoe club, were in an outrigger canoe that lost a stabilizing pontoon north of the harbor Saturday.

Barry Chandler told the San Jose Mercury News (http://bit.ly/1oCb0Bn ) they tied the canoe to another canoe until San Mateo County sheriff's deputies came to their rescue.

The paddlers were transferred to the sheriff's patrol boats and brought back to the Coyote Point launch ramp.

They were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
