DEVORE, Calif. (AP) — Workers are shaving 55 bug-and-debris-matted animals after they were surrendered in a San Bernardino County animal cruelty case. It comes on the eve of the busiest weekend of the year.
Thousands of dogs will bolt because of firework noise through the weekend. Good Samaritans and animal control will spend much of the weekend rounding them up and taking them to shelters.
Spokeswoman C.I. Lopez says 38 long-haired dogs and 17 cats from the Phelan area were seized Wednesday and taken to a vet. They were brought to Devore Thursday for cleaning.
There are already several dogs at Devore so Lopez asked anyone looking for a pet to stop by. People need to make sure their dogs are chipped and safe on the Fourth of July.
